Usher’s Here I Stand Goes Gold

Usher -Here I Stand Ringtone

In just its first week out, Usher’s highly anticipated Here I Stand sells an impressive 443,000 units making it #1 album on the Billboard charts. Bun B’s II Trill comes in second on the hip hop charts with 40,222 copies sold this week for a total of 138,566. And rounding out the top 3 spot is Mariah Carey’s E=MC2with 35,581 copies this week for a total of 967,568.

All I got to say about the numbers is that R&B is kicking our hip hop ass. You’ve noticed for the last few months every single R&B album has went at least Gold within the first month whereas the majority of rap album are struggling to break 200k. Rick Ross’ Trilla just went gold selling 550,186, and with the marketing budget behind him, I don’t think Def Jam made any real money. Even big Snoop Dogg’s Ego Trippin’ hasn’t hit Gold status yet selling just 331,365.

Next week should be interesting to see Lil Wayne’s numbers on Tha Carter 3, what with the album being leaked two weeks before its release.
