Nasir will be gracing Complex’s July issue. Here’s a behind the scenes look at the interview.
When Nas released The Don in mid-March I went crazy over it, but after the initially hearing, I’ve only listened to the song 3 times. After watching the videos, I’m not impressed anymore. It’s just okay. It seems like Nas is being marketed as a Rick Ross-esque kingpin rapper, which I have no problem with, […]
I can’t believe in 2012 people are still putting down rappers for not being real. No rapper is real. No artist is real. No anything that’s for sale, YES FOR SALE, is real.
IT’S FOR SALE. IT’S TO MAKE A PROFIT. IT’S BEEN EDITED. IT’S BEEN GROOMED. IT’S BEEN MODIFIED TO MANIPULATE YOU INTO DOING SOMETHING. BUY!
In rap we put down other rappers by saying they’re not real. Rick Ross is not real. Drake is not real. And we lift rappers up by saying they are real. Eminem is real. Nas is real. Tyler the Creator is real.
No rapper is real. And why should they be? Have you ever heard a real rapper? There music sounds like shit. It doesn’t even sound like music. It’s not mixed, not mastered, NOT EDITED IN ANYWAY. If you can name a rapper that’s real then that rapper isn’t real.

If you we’re around when Nas dropped Illmatic and It Was Written, you may get a rap boner from this. Anyway, it’s good to see Nas finally find himself and he drops some gems in this about his career.
Nas needed this. The sub-genre of hip hop, known as “real rap” needed this. The urban economy needed this. And YoRapper needed this. I just hope all the wannabes that make Nas’ brand of music fall back now. P.S. Nas’ new album is complete.
K’NAAN let’s of his first single of his upcoming album More Beautiful Than Silence with a surprising guest verse from Nas. While I do feel K’NAAN’s raps still need improvement, his penchant for poppy hooks still remains. Nas of course is on auto-pilot, but still proves why he’s a rapper’s rapper.
I respect the new visuals from Nas for his video Nasty. [flashvideo file=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo97R0ib1CE /]
