Best Song: Let It Go, Ready or Not

G-Unit returns with their follow up album to Beg For Mercy with a new disc Terminate on Sight. Let’s be honest, G-Unit and particularly 50 Cent have seen their stock values drop over the last few years as the public has become tired with Gangster Rap and Fifty’s frivolous beefs. I can’t even recall anyone (beside me) that’s been bumpen’ Fifty or G-Unit in the last two years! I recently had the opportunity to talk to some seventh and eight graders and all of them even hated Fifty with a passion [sidebar: Incidentally, all of them were insanely for Lil Wayne]. Having said that, the last two G-Unit mixtapes were impressive and particularly the first one Return of the Body Snatchers had some serious fire on it. So can G-G-G-Unit make a comeback? Peep the breakdown. Read more

So 50 Cent Cries at Fat Joe’s Funeral

You have to admit Fifty with the tear drop is the funniest thing that’s ever happened in hip hop. Point blank period. I think it’s right up there with Jigga plastering ballerina P all over the summer jam screen years back. See what people are afraid to admit is Fifty knows how to market. He is the greatest promoter rap has ever seen. How else can you explain how he got everyone in G-Unit platinum plaques (except Yayo, who for the record isn’t that bad)?

G-Unit -Return of the Body Snatchers Album Cover

Hmmm, something doesn’t look right about this picture…oh yeah where’s Buck? Doesn’t make sense not to put a platinum selling member of G-Unit on the cover of their “comeback” mixtape. But Yayo, who went wood, is front and center. I feel an announcement coming on.

Why New York Rap is Dead

**Disclaimer: This article was inspired by the fact that its 2008 and NY rap hasn’t had any prominence since ’98. **

It’s no secret New York’s hip hop scene has taken a backseat to them country boys in the South. The sad thing is it has been almost 10 long years that them boys south of the mason dixon have had a grip on the game. 10 long painful years, I might add. How did we get to this point? Isn’t New York the hip hop mecca? Didn’t we invent hip hop? Sure we had Fifty and those G-Unit guys for a minute, but Fifty was pretty much rappen with a twang when he was hot back in ’03. And as for Jigga, he’s loved so much, because he’s all we got. The purpose of this discussion is to figure out why New York ain’t on top. Check out the 5 reasons NY Rap is dead. Read more

Remy Ma Not Allowed to Talk to G-Unit

In the January issue of Shirt Sizes, Remy Ma among other things in her life, namely her shooting case, talks about how Fat Joe put a clause in her release contract from his label that she could not work with any member of G-Unit for the next three years. Here is the quote, to read […]
