Rick Ross’ Sales Fall 68% in Second Week, Asher does Okay, and Drake on the Come Up

Yeah like Def Jam doesn’t buy records. I kid. I don’t think that theory ever made sense to me. Anyway, Rick Ross’ sales for Deeper Than Rap fell 68% selling close to 51k, bringing the albums two week sales total to: 209, 200. No hate, but who are the people buying this stuff? I know YoRapper commenter Murphy said he picked up Deeper Than Rap for $2.50 earlier on. But c’mon…an album for less than $3 bucks? What is Ross competing with a combo meal?

Just to prove Def Jam doesn’t buy records, Asher Roth also experienced vertigo as his sales fell 65% for his second week of Asleep in the Bread Aisle. That album has so far only sold close to 90k. Now even though some may think that’s a failure, I think Asher’s numbers are pretty good, considering he’s not on a huge label. Also I peep’d the new XXL and they gave his album a “XL”, which is a great look for the kid.

Also if you haven’t felt the buzz yet, the light skinned one, Drake is currently in a bidding war between Universal Motown and a whole bunch of labels. My bet is he’s waiting on the “right offer” before he bites. But either way it looks like my ’08 prophecy of Drake and Asher Roth taking over in ’09 is coming true. Now I just need Currency to step his rap game up and I’ll be 3/3.
