REVIEW: The Dream – Love Vs Money

The Dream Love Vs Money Album Review

Review: 3.75 out of 5

Best Song: Rockin’ That Shit, Put It Down, Sweat It Out, My Love

Do people still think The Dream and T-Pain are the same person? I know my girlfriend does and if she does that means about 80% of the public thinks so as well. Now I don’t know if sounding like a guy who uses autotune is a bad thing from a talent perspective but from the perspective of someone whose trying to sell records The Dream is going to have to do a better job of differentiating his sound from the more popular T-Pain. I mean it would be ridiculous if Reebok made the exact same shoe as Nike (wait they did). But all that aside, can The Dream deliver a good hip hop/R&B/pop/electro/euro album? Check the break down fool.

1. Money Intro
What the hell is going on in this 9 second intro? It’s either a Ferrari that’s having trouble starting or The Dream panting in the washroom.

2. Rocking That Shit
Since this is the hottest song at the moment among Blacksters (black hipsters), I bang this one out hard. This song has a monumental beginning and then just falls apart half way through, but hey in the club only the first 30 seconds matter anyway.

3. Walkin’ On The Moon featuring Kanye West
I appreciate how The Dream swaggerjacks Micheal Jackson’s swag on this joint but there is no rapper on Earth that’s going to sound good over this Billie Jean drum pattern. Sorry Kanye. This will probably be the third single.

4. My Love featuring Mariah Carey
The biggest problem here is that The Dream can’t really sing and when he does a duet with Mariah Carey it only becomes more apparent. Do you guys remember that Boys II Men and Mariah Carey song “One Sweet Day”, now that’s twit for tat.

5. Put It Down
Why this isn’t the second single I have no clue, but the swag drippin on this one is crazy. I like how The Dream admits his flaws in not being as good of a singer as Usher or as good of a dancer as Chris Brown but at the end of the day can still “put it down”. I feel the same way ya digg me?

6. Sweat It Out
If you heard The Dream’s last album Love/Hate you probably noticed the album falls off after the third song, this time around he keeps the gems rolling with this ode to rough sex and how it’s going to mess up shawty’s hairdo.

7. Take U Home 2 My Mama
This isn’t a bad song but is venturing way too much into T-Pain territory with the silly song premise, snap, and poorly programmed synths.

8. Love Vs Money
Now this is a pretty crazy beat and the lyrics ain’t half bad either. But imagine Usher sang this? Ohhh weeee.

9. Love Vs Money Part 2
This is like the same song we just heard with a Lil Jon beat. I’m sure there’s a deeper meaning but I don’t really care.

10. Fancy
Fancy? Are you serious? This song has a good build up but I just can’t stand how he says “fancy” or mabye I just find that word ubber-gay. This is like a song you would hear on Kanye’s 808’s & Heartbreak.

11. Right Side of My Brain
I can’t even say anything bad about this one. The Dream gets really creative talking about how he needs to use the right side of his brain when he’s dealing with a particular kind of woman (I know the feeling).

12. Mr. Yeah
This is pretty much a remake of “Shawty is the Shit” but it has enough juice to pull it off. Even though at first I thought he was saying “Mr Yell”. I was like how wow is yelling at girls cool now?

13. Kelly’s 12 Play
A nice tribute to the alleged pedo R Kelly. But hey he did make some great songs and was acquitted.

14. Let Me See The Booty featuring Lil Jon
Everything you think a song called “Let Me See The Booty” featuring Lil Jon would be.

Closing Remarks:
Now I may have come off as a hating ass n*gga throughout this but The Dream’s music is the only “singing” kind of music I can really relate too. And since I’m a rap head, I don’t really care how well he can sing, for all I care The Dream could be a rapper or in that T-Pain space. If you a bragadocious rap head who likes looking fly for the girls and having a good time at the club, you need to give The Dream’s Love Vs Money a spin.
