REVIEW: Swizz Beatz – One Man Band Man

One Man Band Man (Album Cover)

Review: 2 out of 5

Best Song: “Bust Ya Gunz”

“It’s Me Bitches!” Swizzy’s back with his 2nd offering since his 2002, “Presents G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories”. This time around though things are different as Swizzle is showcasing his mic skills (or lack thereof) over some ubber-shiny beats. Taking his cue from Who Is Mike Jones by repeating phrases over and over again until they become catch-phrases, he takes a very hmmmm “southern” approach to album making. Check the track break down suckas!

1. Product Man (Product By The Individualz)

Beat is kinda heavy. But Swizz just keeps yappen’ about how he has that “the product man!” Best ad lib: “Im grindin’…I still got MPC rubber under my nails nigga!”

2. It’s Me Bitches (Produced By Swizz Beatz)

Yee already know this song is crazy. It’s like a dancehall joint, same energy and same repeating of verse-hooks. Swizz should listen to “Ether” more often. Best line: “It’s Me Bitches!”

3. Big Munny (Produced By Nottz)

This song is actually sick and catchy as ever. This beat, produced by Nottz, is a certified banger. Best ad lib: “Ah man here come big money.”

4. Bust Ya Gunz ft. Drag on (Produced By Needlz)

What do you do when you have a hot beat and no hook? You take a hook from one of your classic hits, hoping these young kids wont remember. Does it work? Admittedly, yeah it does, even Drag On does his thing -whatever that maybe. Funny thing about this track is Swizz brags about changing the game with his production yet this track is produced by Needlz!
Best Line: “You don’t know me but Kanye know my name, Timbo know my name, Pharrell know my name, Scotty know my name.”

5. You Know Your Boy Did That (Produced By Snags)

Again, a song about how great Swizzy is behind the boards, and yet again Swizzy didn’t even produce this, newcomer Snagg did, wtf. And what’s with this line, “I was liven with my little bitch for a week, the bitch kicked me out, I’m at my other bitch house.” Did Swizzy forget he happily married?

6. The Funeral (Produced By Neo Da Matrix)

A nice attempt at a introspective song. I think it would have been better if Swizz turned off his “It’s Me Bitches” voice and turned on a really serious voice. But it’s whatever.

7. Take A Picture (Produced By Swizz Beatz)

I’m already sick of this sample being used and abused. But cot damn, Swizz should be charged for this atrocity of a song. I couldn’t even make it to the end.

8. Top Down (Produced By The “E. McCaine” Edition and Swizz Beatz)

This beat is a banger. But again Swizz doesn’t have the fire power to make this a classic. Imagine Lil Wayne on this? T.I.? Hov? Even that off beat mcee Talib Kwelli would have killed this shit.

9. Money in the Bank (Produced By Marlin “Hookman” Bonds, co-produced by Greg “Mayhem” Taylor & Carlisle Young)

Another very heavy beat, the energy on this one is crazy. Swizz is in full “It’s Me Snitches” form here, repeating verses and borrowing rhymes from Diddy or Puff Daddy (whoever) – “Now what yall wanna do? Wanna be ballers, shot callers, brawlers?”

10. Part of the Plan ft. Chris Martin (Produced By Swizz Beatz)

Chris Martin is like the new Nate Dogg except more sensitive and more artsy. I know these rappers don’t listen to ColdPlay, they just figure, “Hey the white boys listen to them, it’s going to open up new markets for me.” It’s all marketing people! Even though I’ve been told by some white boy, Swizz actually just sampled ColdPlay’s “X&Y”. But the sample is hot nonetheless and Swizz does get introspective here.
