J. Cole Releases Video From 2008?

I’m scratching my head a little at the video release for J.Cole’s “Lost Ones” off Cole World: The Sideline Story. At the beginning of the video a marquee appears saying that the video was shot in 2008 and J. Cole can’t believe how far he’s come and is getting goosebumps yada yada yada. That’s all fine and dandy, but the video actually looks like it was shot in 2008! It’s blurry, the treatment doesn’t really do the song justice, it’s pretty much a step above the average youtube rapper’s video.

I understand that J.Cole shot this video before he was signed and was on a budget. I fully get that. What I don’t understand is that now he is signed and does have a budget. Why not shoot a real good video for a good song? Doesn’t the song deserve it? Don’t the fans deserve it? This is definitively a case where keeping it real, is keeping you back. But what do I know, I’ll let you tell it.

Below: J. Cole’s video for “Lost Ones”.
