The internet chatter about Lil Wayne being the greatest rapper is insane. People have lost their cot damn mind. Ain’t no way the greatest rapper alive is going to be this guy that kisses grown men? Really. His flow has improved leaps and bounds and his punchlines are getting serious, but compare him to any NY rapper on the mixtape circuit and he’s just average. Now I know Weezy does have what you call “it”, that serious magic star power, but ain’t no way Weezy as of the Carter 2 is seeing Hov or even Eminem. I know there are high hopes for The Carter 3 and my feeling is Weezy won’t meet expectations because the expectations are way to high for anyone to meet right now. It’s like T.I. claiming he’s the best and puts out two subpar albums, (King and T.I. vs TIP, which both pale in comparison to Urban Legend).
The thing with Weezy is that he has no classic albums to date and for that matter no real hits. In other words, Weezy has all this underdog potential built into him plus he’s pretty much killed every guest appearance he’s be on in the last while. So really hiphop is looking for it’s next king, but I have a feeling that void will be taking up by someone else. Plus Weezy’s foray into the NY style rap will likely confuse his Scream Tour fans. Go DJ.
