Even though I thought Avatar was an average movie at best, in just under 40 days it has managed to become the highest grossing film of all time. James Cameron’s Avatar has grossed $1.859 billion besting his other movie Titanic which grossed 1.843 billion in 1997.
So not only does Cameron have both the number one and two slots for highest grossing films, he also has the number one and two slots for films I will never see again. I also don’t think it’s fair to compare the movies as the ticket prices in ’97 were much lower than they are now. Let’s not even forget the mark-up to wear those awkward 3d glasses.
Nonetheless, props to Cameron and I hear there maybe some Oscar nods coming his way for Avatar. Will a sci-fi movie actually get an Oscar?
